  1. The moat in Aghavoe is about 150 yards north of the abbey church. It is about 20 feet high and 30 feet in diameter at the top. There are the remains of a thick wall or cashel on the top. For the last 20 years the moat has been sinking down. It has sunk about four or five feet deep. The cause of this is supposed to be the fall of a room inside it. There are many traces of foundations and roads around the moat. The old main road from Aghavoe to Kilkenny was in that direction also.
