  1. When the potatoes were all dug and in the pits we would have what was called "A grating night". A Michael-mas goose, would be killed and selected potatoes would be grated in the raw state then squeezed and baked on a griddle. Starch would also be made from potatoes on May Day.

  2. On St Patrick's Day we would all have Patrick's Crosses and my father would blacken a sally rod and mark the Sign of the Cross on our shoulders with it on.
