  1. Long ago there was an old hedge school on the east side of Rathdowney on Mr Dunphy's Land. My Father to me that his Grandfather went to that school and the man's name that taught in it was (Lusty?) Lamb.
    The children that were going there used to sit on stones around the master and do their writing on the (clay?).
    This school was only held in Summer and in Winter he used to work with the farmers and teach their children at night
