In Mountmellick in a street called Wolfe Tone Street, there is a beautiful stone monument erected to the memory of eleven brave Irishmen who lost their lives in the Penal Days.The monument is in the form of a stone cross and the eleven names are inscribed on it.The monument is encircled by and iron railing to protect it,Every year at Easter a meeting is held there and a wreath is placed on its top in memory of the men who gave their lives for the cause of their country.
