  1. During the Penal Days, there were monks living in a monastery in Kilmanham, outside Mountmellick, Laoighis. They cut a tunnel from the monastery to the Ivy Chapel, which is situated in Derrydavy, near Mountmellick. When they wanted to say mass, they used to go through the tunnel, to the Ivy Chapel, and say it there. When the priest hunter would be in the district, the monks used hide in the tunnel till the hunters would be gone,
