  1. Most marriages were celebrated about Shrove. It was usual long ago for the priest to come to the house to marry the persons. This was over eighty years ago. Great feasting went on at the wedding. A certain number of stock was given to the bride as a dowry.
    When all was over the bride rode home with her husband on horse-back, as was customary in those days.
    Then the married pair usually went on their honey-moon for a week or so.
