Local Songs (continued)
“This song made by Patrick McGroy.”
(continued from previous page)But if your gander I make safe & sound
Will you give me that little bit of land
Your gander will fly around;"
"Indeed i will and anything you ask,"
"So then fetch me out the bird, and I'll begin my task."
He took the gander from the arms of the King.
First he touched its back; then he touched its wing.
He hushed it up into the air
And it flew fifty miles around
"And now I thank your Majesty for that little bit of ground"
Then the King to raise a ruction
Called the saint a witch
And sent in for his six big sons to leave him in the ditch.
"No matter says Kevin,I'll soon settle these urchins
Then of the King and his six sons
The saint made seven churches
If you go there between the hours of twelve & one o clock
You'll see this gander flying round the vale of Glendalough
Now I think there is a moral good attached to this song
To chastise a person whenever he does wrong
A poor man may keep his word
Far better than those who are grander
For the King refused to pay the saint
When he cured his old dead gander.
