before the Drainage of the Barrow commenced in 1925 , a huge stone weighing about thirty cwts.,lay on the east bank about forty perches from the handsome bridge which now spans the Barrow , tow and a half miles north of Athy .
This stone was thrown by a giant from the rock of Dunamaise in Leix. .This giant on this memorable occasion was entertaining Rory O' Moore and his guests with his feats of strength
During the Burrow Drainage this stone was broken to pieces with gelignite.
