  1. On Mr. Joseph Loughlin’s farm in Cappanargid, in the centre of a four-teen acre field called “Cruacha na Frát” stands a large square stone. Tradition has it, that a giant who lived on Croghan threw the stone to the Hill of Allen, where Fionn Mac Cumhal lived, and challenged Fionn to throw it back. But he did not succeed. It fell where it now stands and has remained there. There are five holes on one side of the stone, beleived to be the finger-prints of Fionn.
*Mr. Loughlin, who is now about 70 told me this story as he heard it from his father.
The field is somewhat more elevated than the adjoining land, and is surrounded by a hedge of Sallies. It is not certain why the field is called “Cruacha na Frát”
