    When stormy winds bellow
    And apples grow mellow
    When leaves turn yellow
    And fall from the tree,
    While the thistles white hair
    Is aloft thro' the air
    I sit down in my chair
    To write unto thee
    II
    It is three years and more
    Since I roused you before,
    When Molly astore,
    Was the pride of my song
    But I then was too rough,
    You deserved no such stuff
