  1. Of all birds the magpie is not a favourite.
    One of his worst faults is the killing of baby chicks and ducklings. However, it does not often attack these unless its nest is robbed or its young ones interfered with. It has been known to kill a clutch of chickens, 17 in number, by picking out their eyes to avenge the robbing of its nest.
    There is an old rhyme as follows : -
    One for sorrow,
    Two for joy,
    Three for a wedding,
    Four for a boy,
    Five for silver,
    Six for gold
    Seven for a secret that never is told.
