  1. (continued from previous page)
The foregoing poem "An Dan Breac" used to be sung at wakes by old people who had it. Nancy Callan from Lisnamoyle (who was cottering where Owney McBride now lives) taught the foregoing poem to Mrs Mary McMahon of Dian (when Mary was a young girl) for a few yards of yarn.

Ó Caoin Éire na Seirce, tá me do do caoineadh go bhfuil tart orm.

The following verses I took down from Mrs. McMahon of Dian - before mentioned.
Ó Caoin Éire na Seirce, tá me do do caoineadh go bhfuil tart orm.
Bhal, ars an fear gurab é scadán greigeal d'fhág a tart ort.
Éirigidh suas is triallaighidh go Co. Dúin na nGall
Casfaidh Pádraig orthaibh agus béidh sé libh
Nuair a rachas sibh isteach ins na mbádaí
    Béidh na grástaí da roinn
Thart ar seipéal Chríosta agus ó shoin go leach na mbonn
Goidé mur ngroithe go Loch Dearg, na gur chuir sibh fearg ar mur Rí,
Chan Loch Dearg é, ach Loch na nDeór agus an áithrighe.
