  1. Hedge Schools are schools that were in Ireland long ago. The Class used to be held in some house of the district. There was one at Rathealy Cross Roads, in the parish of Tullaroan, Co Kilkenny. A man named James Grace, taught in it. Catchism, reading, and writing used to be taught in them. Some days Mr Grace used to come around to the houses to examine the children. In return for his teaching the people used to give him a night's lodging in their own house.
