  1. Girls amuse themselves in sunner time by picking daisies and threading them together to make "daisy chains" They then wear the chain around their necks. Boys make whipping tops from spools, cribs from strong twigs to catch birds also snares from wire to catch rabbits. The boys make snares from long horsehairs too.
    Years ago boys used to make pop-guns from the strong reeds that grow in marshy places. They used to pack the reed at each end with paper which had been chewed previously in the mouth Then a ramrod the width of the inside of the reed was driven quickly through one end. The compressed air in the centre caused the wad of paper to shoot out with a loud report.
