    I've been a miner for many a year,
    Happy and young and gay,
    Willing and able to work the coal,
    Delving it day by day,
    Working with hammer and pick and drill,
    Striving to earn a crown,
    Bidding good-bye to God's day light,
    After the men go down.

    Always in right good cheer,
    Tossing the trills of the world aside,
    Our crime is a drink of beer,
    Helping the wounded as best we can,
    Seeking to gain renoun,
    I am now on bank to show fair play,
