- Some years ago there lived in the townland of Ardra a mile from Castlecomer a woman of a strange returing disposition who made no friends. She very seldom spoke to any of her neighbours. She seemed however to be deeply religious as she constantly visited the Church where she would remain for some hours in prayer. At this time there dwelt in the same neighbourhood a young man who was at that time a schoolmaster in Castlecomer. He often collected money on the Church door and transacted business for the Parish Priest. This young man's father was a gamekeeper on this part of the Wandersforde estate. One Sunday morning before going to first Mass, the young schoolmaster was eating his breakfast when his father preparing to do his rounds of the woods lifted his gun from a rack, forgetting he had left it loaded. He lifted the gun to examine it the trigger falling the gun discharged killing the young man outright.
