Food in use some years ago in Clara -(now rarely used, if at all).
"Stampy" Bread - This was made from potatoes grated and mixed with water or milk and baked over the fire. It was in general use when white flour or whole-meal was too expensive to buy.
Oaten-meal or "Yellow Meal" Stir a Bout was the staple diet of the working classes during the "hard times" This was used was for Breakfast & supper, with sour milk or skim- milk.
Dinner - usually potatoes and Buttermilk. Meat was a luxury unknown to the poor. Turnip Cabbage were also used.(continues on next page)- Informant
