Some of the old people in this district tell stories yet about the famine of '46 and '47. This district, like other places, was very much affected by it and the people were in a bad way.
Twice as many people lived here before these hard times. The ruins of houses then occupied still remain. There were nineteen houses in this place where there are now only nine.
Before the famine many of the farmers had too many potatoes. Some threw them along the dykes and ditches. The following year blight came. At first, the leaves of the potatoes withered and then the potatoes themselves turned
