  1. Clothes made locally
There are seven tailors in Kilkenny. Each tailor works at his own home and often travels to find work. In one of the mills beautiful tweeds are woven. The majority of the people wear the clothes which are made locally.
The tailor wears a different kind of timble to dress-makers. It has no top to it and he drives in the needle with the side. Socks are knitted locally mostly by old women.
There is an old saying which is often heard in Kilkenny
" Always cut your coat according to measure."
