  1. Evans effort to shoot Cromwell
One day a man named Evans made an effort to shoot Cromwell from the top of Saint Canices tower. Cromwell was sitting with his Ai-de-Camp beneath the tower. Cromwell was not shot but his Ai-de-Camp was. This man was sent for by Cromwell but he did not go.
Cromwell said he need not be afraid and offered him any-think he liked, because he had such a good shot. Evans asked for his own house to be left to him. Cromwell left him the whole lane and it is now called Evans Lane.
