    the cross
    Cromwell came to Kilkenny in the seventeenth century and he intended to slaughter its inhabitants as he had done in other counties. He did not succeed in Kilkenny as well as he did in other towns.
    He killed some of the inmates and plundered parts of the city. Then he made his way to Saint Canice's Church in which there was a huge Crucifix erected to saint Canice. His men entered the Catholic Church and it is
