  1. There was a big hurling match about eighty years ago between the Parish of Ballycallan and the Parish of Killaloe.
    Both sides had as many players as they could muster.
    It was played in a place called the Big Meadow in Ballykeeffe.
    Ballycallan won.
    Whoever could carry home the ball were the winners.
    A man named James Kealy from Ballycallan was a great hurler because he was a great wrestler.
    The players wore their usual clothes when playing.
    The had no goal-posts.
    Balls for both games were made of leather. The foot-ball contained cow's bladder.
    There was no refereeing.
