    I never heard of any local proverb except
    "He is as clever as Freaney, the robber." This man was supposed to be hanged in the townland of Graigooley, on the Callen road.
    In Irish which meant -
    Christmas Day and Easter Sunday are the two best days for the stomach.
    The Irish version is forgotten.
    When people are playing cards in this district they say to the person who robs -
    "Fáinóise" The meaning of this is "Gold ring on you"
    In this district every slender R in Irish was pronounced S.
    e.g. Boithrín - Bóshín
    Máire = Máishe
