  1. A whip employed in Desart was eaten by the hounds about 100 years ago. At night he came home a little tipsy and went to sleep in the kennels. Next morning his boots and stockings were found and portions of his feet. There is a tradition that the remains were buried in Kyle under the Monument Bust which is referred to later in these pages.
There was a fever in the district during the famine years. There was a hospital in Great Oak.
