    It is not generally know that it was a man from Callan who killed Lord Kilwarden in thomas street Dublin the night of Emetts rising.

    George Stephensan who lived at Westcourt Callan was killed at Kilbride cross on the night of 2nd Feb. 1849, by a fall from his horse.
    He was retauring from a dinner at Garryricken house at which a toast was drank, wishing that confusion to Pope and papery. this was a popular toast with ascendency party in these days
