  1. There lived in this district a family named Clearys. One night a calf was sick and Biddy put her scapular round the calf's neck. A man named Patrick McGrath was listening. So the next night he was at a dance and some of the people were telling funny stories, and a prize was given for the best. So Pat. McGrath said, last night I saw Biddy Cleary enrolling a calf.
Patrick Rose, a poet who lived in this district one saw a notice and this is what is was,
Sweet Vale of Avoca, where the bright waters meet (Thomas Moore).
    He wrote under it.
"If Tom Moore had to travel without shoes on his feet,
And lie down at night without blanket or Sheet,
He would not care much where the bright waters meet."
Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
