  1. The Puck Fair was one of the three old fairs which were held annually in the village of Mullinavat. It was held on the 3rd October on the fair green. It was always a very large fair being well attended by buyers and sellers and large numbers of cattle, sheep, pigs and goats were sold there. Goats were very plentiful at that time and nearly all the kids were reared like lambs until they were one year old and were kept over to be sold at the Puck Fair.
It was always a great day for the young boys, selling their goats and kids. Old goats realised from 2/6 to 5/- and the fat kids made from 5/- to 12/6. Any person who owned a puck took advantage of this day. They decorated the animal with ribbons and took him to the fair not to sell him but to advertise his animal. It was always a great day in the village and any-one who could spare the time would go to see the fair. When the sale was over the people spent an enjoyable evening in the village. The grown up people sang and danced, while the boys who had sold their kids chewed apples and oranges merrily and sucked a long brown sugar stick. Then all returned home happy and contented after the great "Puck Fair".
