  1. I
As I roved through Killcullen town
While money held I ne'er looked down
But the first of my misfortunes was
To hire with a farmer in Newtown
    II
How do you thresh young man he said
Is it by the barrel or the day
Your diet it shall be of the best
    Beside your wages no delay.
    III
The barn it was long and wide
Not dreading either hail or rain
With my Buailtan in good order
And a swiping stroke to shell the grain
    IV
There was a sow and nine young pigs
A turkey and her clutch was there
Unto poor Jim they stood a friend
And helped him well to shell the grain
    V
There was six fat ducks and nine fat geese
And with myself they made a law.
They stood a friend unto poor Jim.
And the gander he shook out the straw.
