  1. Once upon a time a man from this district was coming home from Kilkeasy. As he was nearing Danesfort he got off the car to light his pipe. The wind was blowing hard so he pulled into the ditch to light it, but a very withered old woman sat in the ditch. He went back to the car and went on for about another mile, and drew in again to the ditch but he saw the same old woman on the ditch again. He was frightened and drove on again but at Ennismag he saw the same old woman. He hit the horse but it refused to move so he took off his coat and put it on the horse's head and they
