    Once upon a time a man from this district was called up in the middle of the night by his herd who informed him that one of his mares was foaled.

    Once upon a time a man from this district was called up in the middle of the night by his herd who informed him that one of his mares was foaled. They started off together. As they were passing through the Ratheen (Raween) fairies came out and carried off one of them. The other was struck unconscious. He lay there until morning, when a passer-by found him. He asked him what was the matter but the man had lost his speech and could only make signs with his fingers. It is said that the fairies were going to carry the man off to a rath in Co. Waterford.
