  1. All the farmers made their candles long ago. Some made them in moulds but the 'dip' candle was much commoner. They killed a fat goat & made tallow of the fat. They made a wick from cotton thread. Then when the tallow was ready they dipped the wick into it and hung it up on a long stick with many little crooks in it. They passed along dipping each piece of wick & hanging it up and when they came to the other end of the stick the wicks dipped at first were dry and ready to be dipped again.
