  1. One day the Holy Family came to wind swept road. The Blessed Virgin lost the pin of her cloak which she had wrapped round the Holy Infant. St Joseph asked a cowherd in a field for a thorn which would do for a broach. The cowherd said he had no time although he had nothing to do but watch the beasts. A second cowherd made the same excuse.
    When they were passing the Forge the smith came out and saw that the Holy Family wanted a pin. He took a piece of money out of his pocket and from it made a lovely broach.
    Out Lady took the broach, thanked the smith and gave him her blessing. Ever since a smith who washes in the
