  1. When Irish was spoken in Kilmacow

About the year 1860 the prayers and Rosary were started in Irish in Kilmacow by the Rev Fr. Brennan P.P. Mr William Hogan, Milltown and Mr David Hennessy, Lower Kilmacow and they were ably assisted by the national school teacher in Dunkitt. Mr John Bowler a native of Cahirciveen, Co Kerry.
They continued their work until the year 1883, when Fr. Carroll who succeeded Fr. Brennan as parish priest put a stop to it, and said he wanted "none of that nonsense" with the result that the Irish language died out in Kilmacow.
