  1. There is a place in Mullinavat called Món Mhóir. In this place there was a hedge-school during the Penal Days and after. It was a thatched house but it was slated later on.
All the subjects were taught in Irish. The teachers name was Grogan. He was born in the County Tipp. The remains of the hedge-school is there yet and in good condition except for windows and doors because the people who lived in it after were all masons. About a 100 yards from the house was a big rock called Cnoc na Súile because it was on that rock that a scout was always watching for the English soldiers. Near this school is a cave where the teacher often hid from the English.
