Whippy Briscoe was the landlord over Harristown. He was a bad landlord. All the people were rackrented. They had to live on pigs food. If the landlord saw the people eating meat for their dinner he would say that they were as well off as himself. They would not be allowed to cut a tree. There was a lot of evictions in Harristown. The people had to go to America to earn their living.
It was the landlord who divided the land in Harristown.
