  1. Long ago football matches were different to what they are at present. Twenty three men played on each team. Soon afterwards only seventeen played on each side.
    In those matches two goal-posts and two point-posts were used. There was a crossbar on the goal-posts, like this sketch | n |.
    The last of these old matches was played at Rathcurby in the parish of Mooncoin about 47 years ago. The opposing teams were Mooncoin and Kilmacow. Jack Tripps of Grange, now aged 72 years and two brothers Fox of Ballymountain played with the Mooncoin team. Two of the "Seaneens" (Walsh) of Dangan, Kilmacow played with the visiting team. Kilmacow won by a point. The following is an old verse about the match -:
    "Said Will Fox to John Fox
    Will you do what you said
    Put "Seaneen" from Dangan
    on top of his head"
