    1. To see: "soldiers on the pot" that is the soot lighting on it.
    2. The soot falls down.
    3. The smoke seems to lie on the ground.
    4. The distant hills seem near.
    5. To see a red sky in the east in the morning.
    6. A large circle round the moon.
    7. To see the swallows skimming the ground in the summer.
    8. To see Tory Hill capped with clouds.
    9. To see flashes of lightning without thunder in the night.
    10. To see the seagulls flocking in to the land.
    11. When the wind goes against the sun.
    12. To hear the curlews calling in the night.

    Signs of severe weather.
    1. To see flocks of wild geese.
    2. To see grey plover in the fields.
    3. To see the cat sitting with her back to the fire.
