  1. Elphin:-
    Aillfionn meaning white stone. It is said that when St Patrick visited this town first and having converted the inhabitants he proceeded to build a Church. He found a white stone near the place and it formed the foundation stone.

    Abbey Cartron:-
    Ceathramha na Mainistreach derived its name from a Franciscan Monastery that was on the spot where the present school now stands. The monks were killed during the reign of Queen Elizabeth.

    Shankill:-
    An Sean Cill, meaning the old Church. St Patrick founded a Church there and there is an old graveyard there now.

    Ballyoughter:-
    Baile an Uactar got its name from being situated on high ground.
