  1. An Old Song

We won the cup, we won the cup,

    169
    An Old Song
    I
We won the cup, we won the cup,
    Hurrah for our brave men
    With courage bold and uncontrolled
    We won it in elfin.
    2
Our club was in its infancy
But now they are jointly strong
We took the prize from before their eyes
and who can say its wrong."
These lines were composed by Paddy Mac Cormack, Ballyroddy, Elphin, Co. Roscommon on an occasion when the local football team, the Croke won the cup from the William O'Brien, the Sunbursts, and the Davitts. The match was played about sixty years ago in Elphin town.
