  1. Holy Wells
    In the parish in which I live there is one holy well named Brideswell or St Brigids well. It is in the townland of Grange in the parish of Aughrim. This well is marked out by a lone bush and a long stone. People for miles around visit this well from the fifteenth of August to the eighth of September. They have to go around the well three times saying on each round five paters and Avers. When going away they have to leave a ribbon or medal on the lone bush. Three small fish are to be seen in the well and always said that anybody seeking a cure who sees the three fish together is instantly cured. Several people were cured at this well. One girl had a running-ear and was ordered to hospital for an operation. She came to the well and bathed her ear with the water from the well and the pain went immediately and the running ceased. Another boy had a sore eye which was beginning to get covered with a scum. He came to the well and bathed his eye and brought home a bottle of the water with which to bather it. Before the water was used the scum was gone and his eye was as good as ever. There is a story told of this
