- I live in Cloonfad, Carrick-on-Shannon and in this district the following signs are believed to be sure indications of the weather. Signs as observed in the sky:
When the sky is covered with cloud called by the old people "Wool packs" it is a sure sign of rain.
A broken rainbow called a "weather gall" is a sign of bad weather approaching. Seen in the evening it is a good sign.
A circle round the moon if near the moon and coloured, rain is not far off, if a white circle far out from the moon, rain is coming immediately.
When the stars twinkle and look bright frost is near. Stars falling from the sky at night indicate rain.(continues on next page)- Collector
