  1. A Religious Story.
This is a story which is told in my district. It happened in Ballintober, Co. Roscommon, about one hundred years ago.
There were two old women living together in the same house in Ballintober. One of the old women died and was buried. After she died the other woman had a pair of scapulars which belonged to the dead woman. Every time the woman went for water to a certain well she saw the dead woman's spirit. She would faint for a while and she came-to the ghost was gone. This happened a few times, and each time the woman fainted.
At last the parish priest heard about it, and he brought the woman to the well. She had with her the dead woman's scapulars. The ghost appeared and the woman her what she wanted. The ghost said "I want my scapulars." The wanted scapulars were handed over and she was never seen again.
