These forges are great centres for story-telling, especially on a wet day when the farmers cannot comfortably do their work outside and they find a job for the blacksmith which they bring to the forge where they meet their neighbours on the same errand as themselves. It is then the fun begins each one trying to best the other with stories of different experiences, while the blacksmith works away and enjoys it all, now and again telling a good one himself.
