    It was indeed a very exciting item - Jasper Tully, the famous Boyle magnate, owner of thousands, and editor, as well as owner of the "Roscommon Herald" was dead.

    He helped (part) a prominent part in the affairs of the "Land Leaguers", and was a personal friend of Parnell. He boasted the League in the "Herald", and as a result was imprisoned. He spent a term of imprisonment with Parnell in Kilmainham jail.
    In later years, he championed the cause of "Sinn Fein"; and was rebuked by the English although he was esteemed and loved by the Irish. He resided in a spacious house on the Cresent, while the "Herald Works" were being built.
