    Everyone was shocked at the death of Mr. Jasper Tully ex-M.P. who died at his residence Main Street a fortnight ago, and yet it was not entirely unexpected. Mr. Tully had been sick for a week, and very little hope of his recovery was entertained.
    Born in 1858, eldest son of Mr. George Tully and the late Mrs. Tully, he was educated at Summerhill College Athlone, where he showed evidence of the brilliant intellect and unbounded energy, which were in after life to make his name a household word, not alone in Irish, but in British politics, and in Irish journalism.
    Before he reached manhood's estate, the late Mr. Tully was in the thick of the struggle for the emancipation of the tenant farmer. He defied the penal legislation of that time, which was aimed against the
