- In olden times people were great walkers. This is an account of a long walk which I heard:-My grandfather's brother was sick in Roscommon hospital, My grandfather "Matt Crowley" got up one morning and walked to Roscommon which is thirty miles distant. On arriving there he saw his brother. He found him pretty well.He then heard of Lenabane races, three miles outside the town. He went to the races and spent some time there. He walked home again that day thus covering sixty miles on foot in one day. This man lived to be eighty-four years of age and has been dead now about six years.
