    Long ago in all the farmers' houses twelve lighted candles stuck in a plate of oat-meal were placed in the window and the first poor person that came along the next day got the plate of oatmeal.

  2. The buyers used to come the houses. Luck money was given, sixpence or a shilling per head. If the buyer gives any money to the seller the bargain could not be broken.
    To show that the bargain is made the buyer spits on the sellers hand.
    To show that animals are sold
