Before there were any postmen the people would have to go to the Post Office for their letters. A woman named Betty Birmingham commonly known as "Betty the Post" used to go to for the letters. She got a few pence for this job.

“A game called 'handy cum Bandy which hand is it in?”
A game called "Handy cum Bandy which hand is it in?" One of the players puts a button in his hand and then he puts both hands behind his back. He then shows his two closed hands to the other players and says "Handy cum Bandy which hand is it in?" and whichever of the players guessed right, he would get the job of juggling the button. - There is a lake in County Westmeath called Loch Ennell. There was once a town called "Old Mullingar" there, and one night the town sank(continues on next page)
