    A yellow dye can be made from furze blossoms. purple from the heather & many blue clothes can be cleaned with juice of boiled ivy leaves.
    Ointment can be made from a plant called "Lady's fingers" to cure burns. Nettles are given to young turkeys. Suther wood is tied in a little bag & left with clothes to keep away moths.

  2. When an old person is being told about slight accident etc he says "what harm says Jerry when he burned the house:"
    An ignorant person is described as being "as ignorant as the first boat-horse" (horse boats on the Canal)
