One of the things girls make to amuse themselves is a cowslip ball. They get a string and stretch it between two sticks. Then they get the cowslips and hang them head-downwards on the string. When the string is covered they roll it up and tie the ends together.
The girls also make daisy-chains. Boys make cribs for catching birds and they make boxes out of rushes for catching pinkeens. Boys make whistles out of reeds called a piotian. They make catapults out of a piece of rubber.
